50 Short Stories in 2021

Well, here I am, back again and considering a writing challenge. In this case, said challenge revolves around short fiction. As the title of this post indicates, I intend to write at least 50 new short stories this year.

One of the main reasons for this is simple enough: I have a monthly mini-magazine of my short stories, Kilgore's Five Stories, to fill and I need new fiction to do it. That means I need at least five stories every single month for the remainder of the year. That's 9 months, at this point. So, that adds up to 45 stories. I figured I'd include a few more that I might submit elsewhere so I rounded it up to 50 for the challenge.

One of the interesting little asides for me is that if I do this, I will hit another milestone and then cross it: I will have written over 100 short stories. The current count is something like 56 not counting those I have p produced for others as a ghostwriter.

I'd add that I plan to write these stories in the larger context of other longer projects I have in the works. I do want to return with a few novels this year so I'll have to juggle time between different lengths of projects plus the work I do as the editor of MYTHIC: A Science Fiction & Fantasy Magazine and as the publisher at Founders House Publishing

So, here it goes. Let the challenge begin...
