I'm On Patreon

I just launched a personal Patreon page for my writing, publishing, and editing work. As a creative, I hope to get the old style patronage I need to concentrate entirely on my own fiction, going full-time as the publisher at Founders House Publishing, and editing MYTHIC. This might be a long shot but why not when something like Patreon is out there helping hundreds of creatives make a living. The page can be found right here: www.patreon.com/shaunkilgore.

If you like the work I've be doing at Founders House Publishing and MYTHIC or if you've read my Free Fiction Friday or even my novels and nonfiction books, I would love to hear from you.

Free Fiction Friday: A Reckoning

A tenuous peace rules the imperial city of Paradesh after the empire's collapse. The new republic is led by an elected Senate. Kathius, one of the senators and a child of the old nobilty, works hard to secure new freedoms for his people, but there are those who desire the return of the empire.

Marked for death, Kathius remains vigilant.  When convinced to attend a play in one of Paradesh's theaters by his sister, Kathius is caught by surprise when the city is attacked. The senator flees, knowing that the death of the city's leaders could end the republic. The city is set ablaze. Kathius' worst fear comes to pass: forces loyal to the banished emperor have started a war.

I'm Freelancing Again

Several years ago, I made my first attempt at earning money as a freelance writer. Ultimately, I ran into complications and I moved away from that and created my publishing company as a side gig and ended up working another job which has now become my main source of monthly income. In between, I've slowly built the publishing company up but haven't yet reached a point where I could subsist solely on that income.

My life circumstances have changed over the last few years and I've thought about changing the shape of my life into one that better fits my new focus and plays to the strengths and skills I've gained. I've been employed in the same job for almost six years now and as time has gone on, I've become less and less satisfied with the work. It has pulled me away, again and again, from my focus as a publisher and a writer, and given its physical demands, I've just come to the end of it and it is time to move on.

So, I've decided to become a freelancer again, with an emphasis on writing, editing, and proofreading. These are all related to what I am doing elsewhere, especially in Founders House. Honestly, I will be doing a little bit of freelance book design and eBook formatting, as well as ghostwriting.

These days, there is a lot to be said for the so-called gig economy. Larger numbers of people are jumping into it at different points using different providers. I've started that process myself, and have stepped into Upwork and Fiverr, but I've also decided to ply my skills locally too. Lots of self-promotion and client searching lie before me.

I'm hoping to find work sooner rather than later as my desire to get away from my current job grows. I'm ready to be creative again and ready to help others with their writing, including giving feedback as an editor by offering beta reading services.

With luck, I'll find a way to step fully into this work.

Ghostwriting and Co-authoring Books

I'm officially hanging out my shingle as a ghostwriter again and I've decided to focus on ghostwriting and/or co-authoring books with others. The reason for this is that I would like move into writing full-time and need a more reliable means of immediate income. Yes, I'm still writing my own work and publishing it through my book company, Founders House Publishing, but I know it will take multiple forms or streams of income to make this work so I can just be a creative full-time.

I need a a real change. I've been working at my current job for the last almost six years now and both type of work and the schedule are just not a good fit for me anymore.

So, there's the announcement. If you want to know more or you're interested in working together to write a book. Send me a message via my contact page. Let me know and I can work up a quote for you.

Thanks.
