If you've been following my blog, you may have wondered why I haven't been posting as frequently. The reason for this change is that I've become involved in a new writing project that is demanding more of my attention than any previously. I'm adjusting to this but also honestly enjoying the change of pace. I've gone from small piecemeal writing gigs that did not amount to very much money to a larger book project that is not only help me meet my personal business budget for the month but also stretching me as a writer.
Still, the posting here at ShaunKilgore.com has suffered for it. I want to make sure I'm keeping my fellow writers and other readers updated on my experiences with the writing life. My current situation is very much due to the decision I made to become a small press publisher. Seriously, I wouldn't have the chance at co-authorship that I do if I hadn't published Echoes From The Past: A Memoir Of Family Heritage. This first book gave us the opportunity to appear in a local newspaper. My co-author (and current client) got in contact with me and we arranged the terms of this project. Not only will I have credited authorship in this but I will also have another book to add to the Founders House list.
What's Next?
The first step is to finish the book I'm working on by the deadline I set at the start. There will be a lot of subsequent work on editing, typesetting, and generally a preparing the book for publication. Beyond this, I will be looking for new clients, adding at least on other book to the list (if not more). Needless to say, I plan to keep busy enough when you count other activities like promoting the new books and child care duties.
In the coming weeks, my parents continue to have book signings at libraries in the surrounding area. My hope is to improve the turn out for these events. This will be accomplished through more specific planning and through more interaction and networking with all of you via this blog and through other social media. (For those living in the area, the next book signing will take place on May 12 and will be held at the Paris Public Library in Paris, Illinois.)
As a part of my efforts to find new titles, I'm looking for new authors and also delving into the past to find out-of-print books that deserve a second chance to see the light of day. I've already started investigating different options, some local while others were discovered by accident when browsing in the book section of an antique store. I'll divulge more as I make my decisions.
In Closing...
I'm looking for collaborators and creative types. I've said this many times now both here and at the Founders House blog. It's still very true. If you would like to talk more about books, hire me to help you write one, or publishing your story then drop me a line. I look forward to hearing from you.
