New Work Arrives - Now Start Writing Freelance Again

When you're having a down period when new freelance writing projects haven't been available, you may start to think there won't be anymore. It becomes one of those tiny "panic" moments. I think I was having one of those recently. I've written about diversifying your income when the work suddenly dries up. I've also mentioned what you could do in between gigs. I did this to help those who get discouraged enough that they think about throwing in the towel and finding another source of income. I also did it spur myself to action rather giving in to a moment of self-doubt.

Yet, there is some light at the end of that tunnel.

Writing Excuses Season 3 Episode 21: Pitfalls of Self Publishing with Larry Correia

Hello. After a day of fighting to rescue my blog from internal problems, I was able to restore it. The time involved disrupted my plans to post an article. Instead, I would like to share a podcast that I listen to on a regular basis.

Writing Excuses is a 15 minute long podcast hosted by authors Brandon Sanderson and Dan Wells, and cartoonist Howard Tayler. I've been a fan for well over a year. I hope you enjoy. Just follow the link below. Take care.

Diversifying Your Freelance Writing Income

Okay. You're going along with writing the same articles each and every month, taking some solace in the fact that your source of income was secured by fact that it was a repeat customer who seemed content with your work. You don't see any issues with maintaining that single income source, whether it is through a service like Elance or as a member of writing team. You haven't had any trouble getting freelancing work at all.

Then it happens.

Your source dries up. (In this case, my source dried up.) Now, you find that all those months of focusing on that one client, have left you without a back-up plan. You get reassurances that work will come in...eventually. Yet, it doesn't. This is no one's fault. It's just how the freelance writing game gets played every day. You have to remember that being a freelance writer is not a secure profession.

Changes To The Website

I have recently made significant changes to the websites, including setting up a new layout and restructuring the site as a whole. Some content is no longer available, or temporarily unavailable until I can get things added or figure out. I'm hoping to give the blog a more "website feel."

The goal is to make ShaunKilgore.com more user friendly while also making it a more focused site that highlights who I am and what I hope to offer visitors.

What To Do Between Freelance Writing Gigs?

Why haven't I been posting? Well, it comes down to scheduling and not having the answers to certain questions. Right now I'm without freelancing work. That always puts me in an odd frame of mind, like I may not get anything new. Conversely, it also provides this huge, open field of questions that need answered like whether I should take advantage of the gap to find different freelance writing? Are there new venues to be explored while I develop other writing projects. Should I continue to hunt for a venue that will give me a byline? I'm at the headlands of new possibilities. There is a certain amount of fear in this.
