What Happens When The Writing Dries Up?

For most of a month now, I've been in an awkward position. After finishing a draft on a book - and getting the last payment for that work - my attempts to find sufficient writing gigs to meet obligations have yielded only few results. (I managed to snag a few articles.) At this point, I'm out of time. I've been met by that raw, gnawing feeling in the pit of the stomach that accompanies such frustrating moments. I'm certainly not alone in this. Anyone who has failed to meet a deadline or lost what seemed like a fairly stable stream of income can identify with this guttural feeling. For many writers, this is just a part of the business. Others respond by scrambling desperately for work, tracking obscure leads, and hitting up old clients for possible jobs.

Yes...A Book Designer Too!

While I didn't mention it in detail last time, I wanted to tell  you about my Book Design services. Now, you can find a link to a page that outlines my terms to provide book design and text layout services. At this point, I'm fairly new to the game of design, but I can say that I've designed three books - including the first one published by my company, Founders House. I'm in the process of working on the next one. I've completed a few mock-ups for different clients, but haven't sold many designs yet.

Writing And Design Services

While I've been trying to put this together for some time now, today I finally took the first step and created a dedicated page to  display what the Services I have to offer as as freelance writer and a book designer. On this page I have listed my standard payment terms and layout my rates as well. I can provide other information as needed, but I hope it will be enough of a start for a few clients. Anyone who might be interested in retaining my services whether as a ghostwriter or to help them get their books published via POD sources, I am ready and willing to take assignments. Those parties interested can contact me via the site's contact form.

Making Strides With The Book

Well, I've done it. I managed to copy the first draft of the book I've been co-authoring with a father who lost his son in a tragic accident. For the last few months I've been working a book about sixteen-year-old Kirk Gentrup who was killed while on the baseball field during a championship game back in 1995. Using father Ken "Cruiser" Gentrup's trove of hand-written notes, newspaper clippings, and a collection messages and greeting cards he obtained over the years, I've constructed stirring narrative. At this point, I have only an initial draft complete. That means this work-in-progress still has a ways to go before it is complete.
